Denise Prince’s short film the latch is off recounts an early and culturally shameful sexual experience.

Prince, positions the experience, and therefore a more honest view of sexuality, as an integral part of a state of being whole.

The piece can be viewed at www.deniseprince.com – the second miniature square under portfolio one.

Denise Prince’s video and performance work is complex and problematic. She addresses culpability, looking good, intimacy, betrayal, unguarded pleasure and a desire for authentic connection with unexpected honesty.

  1. Hi Denise,
Thanks for posting. I’ve long been interested in the dynamic of shame affect. It’s a strong emotion for women in particular, and being able to transform it into something empowering is tricky but useful.

  2. thank you Susan,

I hear you. But I’m convinced it’s simply choice, applied over and over until believed. No longer tricky. Just new force of habit. Sounds so good to say. I guess that comes from someone who’s pushed far enough past it’s boundary that I can no longer return.

    cheers and cheers
    Denise
